FAQ
1 Kings 19:11-12 “The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit- fruit that will last- and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.”
Core Value: Prayer Base
Working at Crossroads Farm is more than just a job, it is a mission. It is a calling. It requires hard work, creativity, and deep care for others. We have been and continue to pray for those who will support and those who will serve the rural youth of our nation. If we’re honest, our prayer is not that you fall in love with a specific job or the staff or even one community. Our prayer is that you fall in love with the mission field of rural youth and that you feel the call to serve them wherever that may lead. We know that God has given us a vast vision for reaching rural America and that He is calling those He wants to be part of that vision. As you pray and respond to God’s call, here are some logistical questions to help guide you in your process.
What kinds of positions are available?
Missionaries may hire in at five different levels: seasonal resident, resident, associate, director, and executive director.
Ministry Exploration Interns are in the process of earning an associate degree or higher. They agree to a maximum of twelve weeks.
Residents have at least a two-year degree or equivalent work experience but no experience studying or working in ministry. They agree to a two-year term.
Associates have at least an associate degree or equivalent experience with youth ministry experience through their study or the equivalent of work experience. They agree to a three-year term.
Directors have at least an associate degree or equivalent experience with youth ministry experience through their study or the equivalent of work experience. Directors must have served at least one term as a CRF Associate or have equivalent experience in the field and agree to a three-year term. Directors will have full responsibility over their area of influence.
Executive Directors have at least a bachelor’s degree and five years of full-time ministry experience. The Executive Director is responsible for every area of ministry within their branch of CRF.
What kinds of skills are needed?
The short answer? All of them. God can use any and all skills and so can we. The longer answer, each of our branches has, at the very least, one ministry director and one administrative director. As God provides, we are opening new branches across the country and each needs these two directors in place before they can launch. We are also hiring associates for all of our branches. These associates can work in a variety of fields including, but not limited to, program, graphics, production, worship, and office management. As our ministry grows and God opens doors, specific needs and opportunities continue to grow and change. To ask about current specific needs or to schedule a visit, call the National Headquarters at 517-283-3982.
How can I be sure of God’s will and call?
God speaks in many ways. As you pray and determine whether this is the right direction for you, here are some helpful questions to consider:
We take God’s calling very seriously. In the hiring process, you will go through listening prayer, read several books about calling, hold countless conversations, and be mentored in creating a portfolio including explaining your calling to others. Watch this video from our President on the need of rural America and the importance of obeying when God calls.
How will I be paid?
Crossroads Farm is a 501c3. Each of our missionary staff have the responsibility to build a team of partners to come alongside them in prayer and support, based on the model exhibited by the Apostle Paul (See Philippians 1 and 4). At Crossroads Farm, this process is called Ministry Partner Development. The support raised by staff covers salary, health plan, retirement, and ministry expenses. Each candidate is guided through the ministry partner development process by an MPD Coach. Donations go to Crossroads Farm, who then pays employees, per ECFA regulations.
If the support raising process seems daunting, take heart! God always provides for those He calls. Check out these articles for some encouragement and thought as you pray and consider God’s next steps for your life: An Introvert’s Guide to Support Raising and 10 Reasons Not to Fear Support Raising.
What kinds of benefits will I receive?
Missionaries are allowed to raise, in addition to their salary, health insurance, ministry expense fund, retirement fund, and dependent bonus. Each staff member receives a certain number of paid sick, personal, and vacation days each year, as well as itineration days for building up and pouring into their ministry partners.
What are the qualifications for joining?
For those applying for associate or director positions, a minimum of an associate degree or equivalent experience in a professional field are required. For those applying for an executive director position, a four-year degree and five years of youth ministry experience are required.
Crossroads Farm evaluates potential employees on character, competency, and chemistry. These qualifications, along with affirmation of God’s call, will determine hire and placement.
What training will I receive?
In addition to MPD training, all candidates will go through values and theology training, as well as on the job training for each specific position. All missionary staff (and volunteers) go through the four-year ARMS of a Servant Leader training, equivalent to 60 hours of college youth ministry training.
How is my assignment location determined?
As you work through the application process, our hiring team will work with you to determine your ministry assignment. This may include choosing which CRF ministry you’ll be working with, as well as your location, ministry focus and team(s). Employees will be placed based on their abilities, calling, and CRF’s current needs. Assignments will be confirmed before candidates begin Ministry Partner Development.
Crossroads Farm will do its best to honor location preferences, but the final decision rests with the organization.
