The One True God

December 18, 2016

I have made a promise to attempt to answer a few of the more difficult questions that we get asked here at Crossroads Farm. In beginning I should state that all of these questions have been answered far more thoroughly by people far smarter than me. I hope though that the answers I propose will be helpful to the many people that have consistently asked them through the years. Today’s question is this.

“How can you believe in only one god?”

I believe that another way to ask this question is this. “Given that the world is so full of people who believe in different gods, how can you be so sure that there is only one?”

My answer is pretty straight forward. There are many gods. I am not looking for one to trust. I am looking for the One great God. In a world of what the Bible calls “false gods,” Jehovah God has stated it pretty clearly. He is the God above all other gods.

Satan is considered the god of this age. I believe that the gods of other religions have power, but these powers come from the same source. The Bible has said, (and I will explain why I believe that it is right) that Satan masquerades as an angel of light. His legions of demons have powers that we as humans do not. They are pretend gods. They live in order to trick people.

The Hindu religion claims to have hundreds of thousands of gods. The Egyptians served many Gods. The Greeks even had an altar for the gods they may have not have remembered. The Romans worshipped lots of gods. The Incas, Aztecs and Mayans offered children in sacrifices to their gods. The Norsemen worshipped gods that looked like them. I ask the simple question. Are there really that many different gods? If there are, then which one rules them all? I believe that these false gods all represent Satan. Any lie they tell works against THE ONE TRUE GOD.

More does not mean that all are equal.

Psalm 4:2, 3 How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods…

Jeremiah 11:12 The towns of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they will not help them at all when disaster strikes.

1 Cor. 10:20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.

Let me put it to you this way. If I am going to eat at one restaurant for the rest of my life, I want to chose the one that is best. Many restaurants does not mean that all are equally good choices, do they. Variety doesn’t come into play either. If this one truly great place to eat states, “We are the best. You can have whatever you want here. We have just one condition. You can only eat here for as long as you live.”

Even if every other restaurant tells me that all restaurants are equal and that they are good with me eating at any of them, it does not mean I can experience the One True Restaurant.

The real question is whether or not Jehovah God is that one great God.
There is only one God that created the heavens and the earth. It is Jehovah God.
There is only one God who saw that men could not keep the law by themselves. It was Jehovah.
Only one God sent an offering that was for all time. It was Jehovah God.
Only one God loves mankind enough to sacrifice for it. It was Jehovah God.
Only one God has said that they are eternal and have been working on our eternal place called heaven for a long time.

There are many gods (or should I say “prophets”) who claim that they (their gods) have done some of these things, but there is only one that claimed he has done all of them.

For me, the choice to believe in a god is easy. God (or Jehovah, his Hebrew name) has claimed that we will be able to know him through his son, Jesus. It all comes down to Jesus.
