Day Five… The Crap Factor

I need to begin by saying that for the average reader, the posted lyric (expletives xd out) should be offensive. Actually, it should be offensive to anyone who aspires to love and be loved. When I was going to high school it was easy to be unaware of the words of a song. Now, as an adult, I will tell you that the lyrics to songs that I did not even like are still etched in my memory. This brief devotional is geared to ask the simple question, “Is this what a believer wants in their mind?”

Sometimes I am surprised at the amount of garbage we feed into our souls and expect to think straight. Here’s the sad truth. Garbage in… Garbage out. Here’s how the Bible says that.

Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.

Look at it this way, if you continue to feed poison into your soul, it won’t take long before you are sick and eventually, dead. In fact, music is so powerful an emotional tool, that in 2008, the band My Chemical Romance was blamed for the suicide of a 13 year old girl.

Listen to these lyrics from a hit song by Avril Lavigne and ask yourself if it is poison or not.
