I Gotta Feeling

What does the phrase, “Falling in Love,” mean? I mean, if you think about it, most people claim to fall in love often, but it doesn’t seem to last very often.

I can ask you what it feels like to be in love but most people describe what we call, “infatuation”. Infatuation is when we are consumed by the thought of some other person. It is more like being in love with being in love.

We don’t really know why we react more strongly to some people but not to others. What we do know is that when we are initially attracted to someone, your body produces three to five strong chemicals into your brain. In a sense you are being hit with a love potion. It doesn’t last though.

You probably know somebody that goes from one new relationship to the next. They are a “love junkie” and quite possibly addicted to the feelings that they have when they are attracted to someone new. Real love, however, is something quite a bit different. Real love lasts.

Since we know that God is love, we can look to him to determine what our love should look like. Remember, we are in the process of writing the best possible story! You are the hero or heroine. Don’t let emotions pick your co-star.

The Bible says this about God’s love.

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a/an adult (man), I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Questions: 1. Honestly evaluate whether your attitude toward love is adult or a little ore childish.

  1. Would you say that you know what love is, or do you think that you are addicted to being in love?

  2. Again, be honest. Do you think that the habits you have toward love and dating will result in love that lasts or love that will fade?

  3. Consider taking one entire year to date God. What would you do on a date with God?
