Creator... Origins, 7th Installment, Magpies

May 24, 2009

Millions of believers pray for God to feed them each day. God dropped Manna, a sort of heavenly Frosted Flake, once. The Hebrews prayed for deliverance hundreds , if not thousands of times. God sent Samson once, used a young woman with a tent stake once, dried up the sea bed between Egypt and freedom with wind, once, and sent a farm kid with a pocket rocket once. God does get points for creativity.

It makes sense that our creator, who reigns as the supreme “artiste professionale”, would never paint the same thing, exactly the same way twice. He is the original origin and based on Him, all things are reflective of him. It may be what John was driving at when he stated that “all things were made by him, and without him, nothing was made that was made”. God not only is the executer of the blue print. He is the blue print. It is the greatest single argument for the intelligent design of the universe. Where does the master plan come from? Without this great creator you may have stuff, but you will never have stuff purposely depending on and being dependent on other stuff.

The words that are translated “creator” and “create” always have God as their subject. There are two Old Testament words that define God’s creativity. The first is a word that demonstrates God’s newness while the second word points toward God’s fashioning and design of raw materials. It is who he is to do things differently than he did the last time. While we silly lemmings need to see a pattern to follow, or a process to participate in, we become nervous. Even God’s creativity shoves us to faith. We want for the bible to be a self-help book. You know, the type of book that gives you step by step instructions to putting in a garden or repairing a ’64 corvette stingray. Our problem with faith is that is always expects we jump into the abyss.

The Word of God is a masterpiece. It simply shows us what God has done for others and encourages us to trust God to do something meaningful for us. Each particle of mineral, every snowflake, all DNA strands scream to us that God is doing something brand new, all of the time. Don’t miss this though. God guides. He directs our paths. He moves us through circumstances and personal choice. He creates and we participate. He has given certain flexibility to his words for us to sift through our personal grids. Granted, he has established truth and has established his scriptures as a measuring stick.

I had a friend in college who used to say that he believed that God not only allowed for theological differences, but that it was a part of his plan to use these differences as a way to communicate to divergent cultures and personalities. I think the he is right.

We shouldn’t become arrogant in our differences either. We are not the impetus for the doctrinal variances. That would mean that God’s truth could fall victim to our ignorance. God, with his divine vision, designed an organism that integrates all believers in faith. Each nuance is a distinct shade mixed by our Father. We are not the creators. We simply don’t have the ability to make our own dirt.

Doug, I like what I have read. I believe you are right on, especially as to God seldom, or never, doing something the same way. If He did, then we would all be in a “box environment”. Keep writing; I would love to see more. Ron
